Air connectivity is a critical component of economic growth, and Erie is gaining momentum. 

Over the past year, the Erie International Airport (ERI) has secured multiple new air service opportunities, including American Airlines' Chicago route and the return of United Airlines service to Chicago O'Hare. These additions significantly increase connectivity and provide travelers with access to hundreds of domestic and international destinations through a single connection.

Most recently, Erie International Airport celebrated the return of United Airlines service, with the first flight arriving on June 1, 2026—the first United-operated flight to Erie since 2023. The airline now offers nonstop service between ERI and Chicago O'Hare International Airport three times daily during the summer season.  

For the Erie region, expanded air service is about much more than convenience. A strong airport is a powerful economic development asset that supports business growth, tourism, workforce attraction, and investment.  

The impact of Erie International Airport is already substantial. The airport serves more than 93,000 passengers annually and supports more than 31,000 aircraft operations each year, making it a vital transportation hub for Northwest Pennsylvania. As air service continues to grow, so does ERI's role in supporting regional commerce, tourism, and economic opportunity. 

“Air service is an economic imperative for communities across the Commonwealth,” said Brandon Mendoza, President & CEO, Erie Regional Chamber. “In Erie, our business community has rallied to support our airport, and we’ve seen a resurgence in flight access. To secure long term sustainability, a true public-private partnership is needed. The Commonwealth needs to help our airports level the playing field with neighboring states.” 

The Erie Regional Chamber recognizes the importance of investing in aviation infrastructure and supporting the long-term growth of airports across Pennsylvania. That's why we support the Pennsylvania AIR Act, legislation designed to strengthen airports throughout the Commonwealth through investments in airport infrastructure, workforce development, air service expansion, and aviation innovation. 

The AIR Act would provide dedicated funding to help airports modernize facilities, expand service opportunities, and remain competitive in an increasingly connected economy. For communities like Erie, these investments are essential to ensuring airports can continue meeting the needs of businesses, residents, and visitors while driving economic growth. 

Here in Erie, Erie International Airport plays a vital role in connecting our region to the nation and the world. Continued investment in aviation infrastructure and expanded air service will help ensure ERI remains a catalyst for economic development, business attraction, tourism growth, and regional prosperity for years to come.
